At their informal meeting in mid-July, Health Ministers in the EU stressed that Europe aims to make full use of the potential of digitalisation in the health sector. What does this imply? How should we handle health data, which is some of the most sensitive data in existence? What purposes should, can and may we use it for? What rules should apply? What should be included in a Code of Conduct that is intended to express European values?

Germany holds the Presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU) for the second half of this year, and the Federal Ministry of Health (BMG) is giving top priority to paving the way for a common Health Data Space and forging ahead with a Code of Conduct. The conference, part of the associated programme organised by the BMG for Germany’s presidency of the Council of the EU, sheds light on this topic from various perspectives.
